did much of the follow-up work on the Golden Square outbreak. 15 March 1813 - Birth of John Snow in York, as recorded on his
certificate of baptism.The oldest of nine children.

3 April 1855 - Whitehead spotted the link between case no.
40 and the contaminated well on Broad Street. 7 April 1853 - First obstetric anaesthesia (chloro-form) given
by John Snow to Queen Victoria, at the birth of Prince Leopold. 14 April 1857 - Snow gave chloroform to Queen Victoria at the birth
of Princess Beatrice.

5 May 1818 - Birth of Karl Marx, who lived in the Golden Square
area at the time of the removal of the pump handle. 12 May 1820 - Birth of Florence Nightingale, who nursed victims
of the Golden Square out-break.

16 June 1858 - Death of John Snow in London, following a stroke
six days earlier.

29 July 1854 - First case of cholera in Broad Street outbreak
at number 40.

18 August 1897 - First cases identified in Maidstone waterborne
typhoid outbreak. 29 August 1849 - First statement by Snow on cholera transmission. 30 August 1854 - Peak of the Golden Square cholera outbreak.

1 September 1854 - Onset of the 'Widow of Hampstead's' illness
in the Golden Square outbreak. She died the next day. 3 September 1854 - The water pump on Broad Street was examined
and 'very little organic impurity found'. 8 September 1854 - Handle of the pump on Broad Street removed. 15 September 1854 - Yellow Flag Day. Pestilence flags were removed
from Golden Square and the cholera outbreak was officially declared to
be over. 22 September 1848 - First case of cholera in London - John Harnold,
a seaman on the steamer Elbe from Hamburg. 30 September 1846 - First recorded administration of anaesthesia
(sulphuric ether for dental extraction) by Thomas Greene Morton in USA.

1 October 1832 - Opening of Newcastle Medical School - it
is likely that Snow was present as a pupil at the opening. 16 October 1841 - Snow presented his first scientific paper.
First public demonstration of anaesthesia, by Thomas Greene Morton in
Boston, USA.

4 November 1831 - First case of cholera in Britain diagnosed
(Sunderland).
December
19 December 1846 - First use of anaesthesia in Britain by
James Robinson, a dentist in London. He was visited within a few days
by John Snow, who wished to see the process first hand.
